Internists are broadly educated physicians who are concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of internal diseases, that is, those that affect internal organs or the body as a whole.

Internal medicine is a specialty, however, at Pentucket Medical, many of our Primary Care Physicians are internists, who bring their “big picture” expertise in medicine to bear upon the health challenges of their adult patients. 

Many of the patients under the care of an internist are suffering from serious medical problems. As a result, internists usually work with patients who have
been referred to them, often in acute or long-term care settings. At Pentucket
Medical, we strive to care for the whole patient, not just for the internal
systems that are in need of treatment.

Senior Care: Caring for Our Greatest Generation

As we age, the challenge of staying health becomes much more complex.  Generally at about the age of 75, we become more sensitive to medications; our body parts and organ systems, having served us for a long time, begin to weaken somewhat.

It’s very important at this age to establish a relationship with a primary care physician. A primary care doctor can see the whole picture of your health, often drawing from your relationship with your cardiologist or gastroenterologist to understand the entirety of your needs.
