Georgetown Staffers Rise to Need
Of Passing Motorist’s Emergency

hrcorner

Georgetown office staff Emily Rosen, Christine Tucker, Miranda Mitchell and Kirsten Orender.

The afternoon was winding down last Friday in Pentucket Medical’s Georgetown office when the late-day lull was broken by an unscheduled walk-in.

The visitor, a 66-year-old man, came through the door gripping his chest in pain. From the front desk, receptionist Christine Tucker says she could tell right away the man needed help.

“He was out of breath and pale,” Christine said.  “He told us he’d been driving by on his way home when this episode came on.  He’d seen our sign from the street and just pulled into the parking lot.”

Telling him to have a seat at the front desk, she called over LPN Kirsten Orender.  Kirsten alerted Dr. Mary Schwartz, who quickly began checking his vitals and gave him an additional Nitro Tab (he’d already taken two while in his car) and an aspirin.

“He was calm, but knew he was in trouble,” says Kirsten.  We immediately applied oxygen and I got him hooked up to our EKG.  Meanwhile Miranda (Team Associate Miranda Mitchell) called 911 while our phlebotomist Emily Rosen got the defibrillator ready, just in case. Jen Doucette got the crash cart.”

Kirsten said the patient “…knew exactly what was going on.  He had previously had bypass surgery and it turns out he is actually a patient of RiverWalk doctors Goldman and Farzan’s. Within minutes EMTs and police arrived and whisked him off to Merrimack Valley Hospital .”

“There was absolutely no panic; everyone functioned as a single unit,” Christine said. “Like a well-oiled machine, really.”

Congratulations to our Georgetown office on a great job and a nice save!  Right-click here to download pictures. To help protect your privacy, Outlook prevented automatic download of this picture from the Internet. Bullet

Recycling Program Initiated Throughout Practice
hrcorner

A long-awaited recycling program is now in place at all locations. Brown bins have been located strategically throughout the sites that will be emptied into larger receptacles for pick up by our recycling vendors. At each of our main sites, there are staff members that have demonstrated an interest in recycling and the success of this project. These colleagues will serve as “Recycling Coordinators”. We would like to recognize the “recycling coordinators” and thank them for their participation and initiative with the recycling project.

Haverhill: Carol Baker

Newburyport: Denise Sheehan

Riverwalk: Josh Brewster

Here is a list of items that we will be able to recycle. To avoid problems with insects and rodents, please be sure to rinse all cans, bottles and items that contained food before placing in bins.

  • Aluminum cans
  • Plastic bottles
  • Milk and Juice Cartons
  • Yogurt Cups
  • Catalogs
  • Paper (w/o patient or business information)
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines

Our program is what is referred to as a “single stream” recycling program. As such, the following items cannot be recycled and should be disposed of properly.

  • Bubble Wrap
  • Food
  • Food Bags (Ziploc, cling wrap et cetera)
  • Potato Chip Bags
  • Styrofoam
  • Plastic Rings (six pack)
  • Plastic Shopping Bags

With everyone’s help we can dramatically reduce the waste that ends up in area landfills. Please look for periodic updates as we continue to research ways that Pentucket Medical can go GREEN! The Gift of Organ Donation, A Simple, Lifesaving Commitment
hrcorner

Organ and tissue transplants offer patients a new chance at healthy, productive and normal lives and the ability to return patients to their families, friends and communities. You have the power to change someone's world by being a donor.

Anyone can be a potential donor regardless of age, race, or medical history and one donor can save up to eight lives. People of all ages can consider themselves potential organ and tissue donors; the condition of your organs is more important than age. Organ donation gives life and costs nothing.

According to the New England Organ Donor Bank, every day 17 people in the United States die waiting for organ transplants. Also, every day about 74 people receive an organ transplant while there are currently an estimated 100,000 people who are waiting for transplant surgeries.

The Massachusetts Donor Registry provides a way for Massachusetts Drivers License and ID holders to consent to organ and tissue donation when they apply for or renew their driver's license. The information is then made available to designated organ and tissue recovery organizations so that donation can occur after death and in fulfillment of the individual's desire to donate and to help others. If you don't have the donor symbol heart on your license already, you can sign up right now to be a donor at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles website.
